Sam Parker has recently joined the Merced office of Mason-McDuffie Mortgage after spending the last twelve years with House Mart Home Loans. During those twelve years, Sam was the leading producer for his firm in both dollar volume and number of loans closed. Serving the needs of those he works with has come from a strong business background that started back in 1960 when his father opened the family business in Merced, Parker’s Hardware. This Spring Parker’s hardware celebrated their fifty-first anniversary, and the values Sam’s dad George instilled in Sam at a young age still to this day apply to his business success, trust, unity, togetherness done with integrity.
Sam graduated from Merced High School in 1968 and matriculated to the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with honors with a double major of Economics and Mathematics. At Cal Sam played center on the Varsity Football team lettering from 1970-1972, as well earning a Varsity Big C from 1969-1972 as a prop on the Rugby team. After graduation Sam continued his education first at Fresno State where he earned both a teaching credential in Math and Masters in Education 1975. It is also the time when Sam started a career in coaching football, working as a graduate assistant for Jim Sweeney. The coaching life took over and after coaching at Merced High, jobs followed at UC Davis from 1979-1982; playing for the Division II national championship in 1982, then back to Cal in January 1983 where he remained until 1989. While on Joe Kapp’s Cal Staff, Sam graduated from the Haas Business School with an MBA in Sports Management. After stops across the country, Sam came back to Merced in the 90’s and has been a part of the community ever since. His coaching moved from the college ranks back to the high schools ranks and has been a part of great local programs, Merced High, Golden Valley High and Buhach Colony. A great deal of the success these programs have achieved came from the values he learned from his college ties and his time spent as an NCAA Fellowship training camp coach with the San Francisco 49ers under Bill Walsh from 1979 to 1989. Sam presently coaches on the defensive side of the ball at Buhach Colony High School.
Sam and his wife Kimber live in Atwater, California, and enjoy time spent with their family which includes Derek Parker, his wife Kimberly and two sons, Aiden and Brett, Lindsey and her husband Jeremy Marsh and their son Gunnar, Alex and his wife Jamie, Andrew Leverett, Sarah Parker, Alexis Leverett and six year old Dustin.
